The book ‘ The four hour work week’ by the famous Timothy Ferris is the step-by-step blueprint to liberate yourself from the bonds of a corporate job, create a business to fund the lifestyle of your dreams, and live life like a millionaire, without actually having to go for work.
Summary In Few Points -
1. The book mainly talks about Definition, Elimination, Outsourcing/Automation, Liberation, etc.2. The author claims that smart work (not hard work) is the key to a happy life with freedom so that you can enjoy your time with your family and your other dreams. 3. It says that being effective is more important than being efficient. We oftentimes focus on being efficient due to which we miss the effectiveness.4. Most people measures productivity by the time spent working but Tim Ferriss says that it’s a bad indicator because we waste so much at work.5. Tim suggests spending our time effectively i.e he claims that only 20% of what we do gives us the 80% of the result, so finding that 20% and giving it more time is what he says about using time effectively.6. We sometimes have many business ideas in our heads but we should try to validate each of them and work on anyone because it is not important that every one of them would work.7. Charging premium from your customer is okay if your product is good because according to human psychology it upgrades your product’s standard and makes it a premium and luxury product. For example, you can take the famous luxury Apple products.8. Due to the above-mentioned reason, we may find 100 people who are willing to pay 4x the price of your product faster than we get can 100 people in the first place. That is why Apple is a trillion-dollar giant!
9. Another reason why you should charge a premium is that the people who are willing to pay a premium are most likely low hassle clients! But quality should be the number one priority always.10. Lastly, Our mindset should not be like I am myself enough, I will do everything by myself because this is the mindset which kills most of us. Rather, we should focus on the things we are best at and leave the others for our employees or outsource them.
Conclusion & Opinion -
The book ‘The Four Hour Work Week’ has always been a controversial book because the ideology on which the book is written is itself controversial. Timothy Ferriss shares his life experiences and he wrote this book more out of frustration than love for writing. As in every book, his way of life, and his ideologies may not be suitable for our life but he does shares some informational facts and some harsh truths of life that are true for everyone. I would highly recommend giving this book a try no matter whether you support the ideology or not and as always this is just a summary and there are lots of more things that you can learn from the book. Hope you all like the summary!
